There has been a lot of confusion on this particular subject over the years and basically I have seen both success and failure with both untreated and treated timbers using epoxy glues over the years. As a marine surveyor I have been asked about this on many occasions and have always answered5.D Well, I really donBt know, I have no evidence one way or the other, so better not!D
Plywoods that are Ahot press manufacturedB do not usually have the same humidity content as solid lumber. This is partly due to the high temperatures used in the manufacturing processes. The high temperatures cause the plywood to assume a lower moisture content than the surrounding relative humidity. Then again, most of these are rarely, if ever, subject to the chemical treatment processes anyway, so probably donBt count in this context.
However, it would appear that due to high turnover of timber in populated city areas, a high demand and high turnover for timber and it would seem that many chain stores like Bunnings here in Australia use a lot of plantation type timbers that are still very wet from the preserving treatment and in my opinion, not dry enough for sale. It does not help matters that the timbers are bundled in plastic and this certainly helps to retain any moisture present already. I tend to avoid these like the plague as epoxy glue will certainly refuse to stick to these timbers as the excess humidity will certainly prevent a decent mechanical bond between wood and glue.
Well, just how dry does timber have to be whether it be treated or untreated?
Well, in a living tree there are huge amounts of water and sap inside that allow to tree to live and grow. Once cut and used as lumber the AgreenB or AwetB timber starts to dry out. As mentioned, commercial pressures and artificial and forced kiln drying does not allow the hollow cellulose tubes that once allowed the sap to flow, to shrink at a proper rate and the moisture content , often far too much, is still retained in the timber when it is put out for sale prematurely.
Most timber will, if stored properly, maintain an equilibrium with the surrounding air humidity so wood stored and kept in humid tropical areas will probably be much wetter than those, say, stored in a drier climate elsewhere.
One American standard in interestingly enough, for kiln dried timber is around 19 % whereas another in a different state is as low as 15%!
Personally I would be loathe to attempt to glue with epoxy at 19 % and marginally at 15%!!
Some timber for furniture and boat building is satisfactory at around 10 to 12% but some very fussy cabinetmakers will demand 7 to 10%!
There are some other types of water based glues available that seem to work on high humidity timbers and there is one British made glue called APolyproofB and is deemed waterproof completely but it appears quite hard to obtain here in Australia and also leaves a red glue line behind. Once again, it is unlikely that it will have the strength of epoxy but may do well in other applications if boatbuilding.
However, once again mindful of stress requirements, there is one glue that positively thrives on the damp. In fact, the glue needs the damp in order to allow it to cure. The glue is Purbond, a single pack expanding polyurethane glue available from Boatcraft Pacific in most major cities.
However, I am unsure if treated timber will work 100 percent with that particular glue 5call them up and see! One other factor is that there are many varying types of timber preservation treatment chemicals and the bonding ability of these differing chemicals may well vary in order allow epoxy based glues to work as intended.
For example, oily type preservatives are harder to bond
Certainly but how would you recognise them? Strong creosote and pentachlorophenol based treatments should be steered well away from as epoxy certainly doesnBt like them at all, especially when combined with moisture.
On the other hand, many of the better quality constructional type adhesives are reputed to be able to withstand fairly moisture laden timbers, up to around 15 to 20%. In fact, surprisingly enough, there are some fairly positive reports about these glues on many boatbuilding forum sites.
Another factor to take into account with treated timbers is the fact that many acidic salts that are present in the chemicals that prevent natural drying out rates to occur. Added to that that many processing plants store the treated wet timbers outside where the noxious fumes are able to disperse to the atmosphere and are subject to weather conditions.
There is of course to be taken into account, the actual direct chemical cocktail reaction that happens when epoxy and its internal constituents are placed into direct contact with chemicals such as arsenic and phenol, for example! There is every reason to expect that the resulting combinations will repel rather than attract!
A couple of tips if you do decide to bond treated timber with epoxy: Do a practise run first with the glue and timber of your choice. Give the joint a hard test time after curing!!!
Sand or lightly plane the surfaces first before gluing5
Always wear protective clothing and dust masks when cutting or sanding treated timber.
ItBs job is to be fairly toxic to insects and humans too can be very affected. Never underestimate the power of these strong chemicals!
Another alternative to treated timber is high quality untreated cypress pine. It is hard, water resistant due to being rather oily and lasts well. Finally, try to use stainless steel screws in treated timber as plain old steel screws tend to melt quite quickly in the chemicals and sap!!
Well. why glue with epoxy on treated timbers at all ?
Yes , a very good question I must admit!5
During the writing of this article I have done a fair bit of investigation and really although I have found some interesting data I havenBt found too much that has endeared me to the processes of using epoxy on treated timbers overall5this is for marine purposes, I might add.
However, there is a wealth of information out there that does suggest that many of the modern glues and more especially, many resorcinol glues can do a pretty effective job when it comes to other applications on dry land 5I think that until thinking outside the square becomes totally illegal, a healthy curiosity still has a place in the world!

Safety While Sailing: Crew Overboard Tips And Equipment
As afternoon fades into evening, scarce clouds hover on the horizon. For a sailor in his Wayfarer, an ominous feeling cannot be shaken. A voice breaks the persistent silence between the rushing of water against the sailboat, CCrew Overboard!D It is not something anyone wants to hear while sailing, but these few simple tips about rescuing crew members is invaluable:
The Quick Stop Method is advantageous when performed correctly, as it is a fast technique. This method also allows for the boat to stay close to the overboard crewmember, therefore making it easier to spot him or her. However this method is disadvantageous since a gybe maneuver must be performed which can be difficult in high winds or especially when the crew is minimal. The Quick Stop Method also cannot be performed if on a run.
The Figure 8 (Quick Turn) Method is advantageous as it can be preformed from any point of sail, and because a gybe is not required. However trading in for these advantages leaves the consequence of being farther away from the overboard crewmember and possibly lose sight of him or her.
Successful retrieval of the crewmember will also depend on the availability of safety equipment such as flotation devices. It will also help if the crewmember is wearing a life jacket. While most regulations require life jackets, ideally the life jacket should have the boatBs name, and be fitted with reflective material and a whistle. Preferably, the whistle should be one that does not have balls in them, since when filled with water, they are significantly harder to blow. The life jacket should also contain a flare so that in the event of poor visibility, the overboard crewmember could light it to signal his or her location in the water.
Of course in the occurrence of a serious problem with the boat itself, it is essential to have a liferaft. The liferaft should be stowed in a location that allows its retrieval in 15 seconds or less. If the liferaft is heavy, greater than 90 pounds in weight, it should not be stowed below deck. Make sure to verify that the liferaft is kept up to date and inflated every so often so that in a critical moment, it operates as expected. It also is wise to keep a ditch bag, which contains emergency meal rations and water, in an easily accessible location.
Sailing can be dangerous, but only if proper safety rules are not followed. As long as the crew remains calm and vigilant, there is no foreseeable reason that the crew cannot have a great day out on the water.

Tips On Making Your Boating More Fun
Most of us boat owners tend to be particular about our ladies and often fret when they do not go as planned. We take great pride when things are ship shape too.
1.Do you ever have problems with mud wasps or as we call them in the South, Dirt Dobbers? I have water, fuel and air vents at various points on the boat where those little pests like to build mud nests. A plugged vent will create havoc when filling boat tanks. A rolled up 2x3 inch section of coarse air conditioning filter material found at your local hardware store inserted into the vent opening from the outside does the trick allowing the vent to breathe and keeping the critters out.
2.What did you last pay for a bottle of isinglass cleaner; about $15.00? A much cheaper alternative that works even better and consists of a teaspoon of JohnsonBs Baby Shampoo and m gallon of distilled water. Use a wool mitt to clean the glass and dry with a leather chamois cloth or soft towel.
3.DonBt spend big bucks on boat shampoo for washing your boat, use automobile soap available at almost any retailer. It works just as good at a fraction of the price and will not harm the surfaces.
4.After washing your boat, do you have window water spots? Use household vinegar to rinse the windows and the water spots disappear.
5.Eliminate clutter in the shower from shampoo, conditioner bottles and soap by mounting a bulk liquid dispenser on the shower wall. You can get one at a reasonable price at any bath products store.
6.Use your favorite body wash with the dispenser above instead of bar soap. Bar soap leaves a significant soapy residue on grates and shower walls and will foul sump pumps requiring frequent cleaning.
7.To further keep your shower sump clean and the pump working as designed, mix about 1 teaspoon of Dawn dishwashing liquid with shower water and let it go down the shower drain. Dawn is an excellent degreaser. I use this about once a week to break up any body oils that are present.
8.Proper storage of sharp knives is important for both safety and maintaining the knifeBs cutting edge. I use a magnetic knife rack mounted on a bulkhead above the cook top to keep the knives within easy reach, free up additional drawers and prevent unwanted cuts.
9.Trash disposal is a constant problem on a cruising boat, but a little planning can eliminate much of the packaging that creates the problem. Buy a variety of plastic, reusable containers in a variety of sizes. After buying chips, pasta, cereals, cookies and other dry goods, transfer the foods to the containers and dispose of the packaging on the docks before casting off. Use reusable containers for frozen foods as well.
10.Maintaining communication while underway is now easier than ever. I use a Verizon air card with my laptop to achieve broadband service 24/7. It works anywhere a cell signal is available in the USA.

Finding Boat Online
A nice hot day in summer with the sea spray hitting your face and a fast boat in which you are in is sure adventure. It is an absolutely wonderful experience and for that you have to go boat hunting. If you are looking to find boat for sale look on the internet. You would get all the necessary information available online and you can get the best out of them to go for boat sales.
Boats like Viking, Hatteras and Bertram can get a higher bidding. The boats that are not very popular have a low bidding and if you are lucky you can buy a cheap boat there.
Now, if you have owned boats for a long time you would know that owning boats is quite an expensive thing. You have to note down the cost of the initial purchase and also consider all the financial aspects. If you are to drain all the financial resources for the sake of owning a boat, it becomes a hazard. So consideration of all these factors is utterly important.
While you are looking for boat sales, you should also consider the depreciation value. If it is a brand new boat and you are going for buying it first time, then you should not go in for a very large vessel at the least cost. Boats get corroded very fast because of the constant erosion of water beneath the vessel. Do not go in for the fancy paintings on the boat which would get washed off easily. You have to look at the body closely and see if they are already getting corroded.
Look at the rails, whether they are distorted or loose. There could be cracks in the hull or on the deck. If there is a leak that indicates, it is made of poor quality. The insides and window frames are to be checked so that they are not weakly structured. Considering all these, and learning a lot on boats you can venture to buy boats and look out for the boat sales. You would get any boat for sale but consider the above mentioned points to get to the right vehicle. That would make owning a boat a pleasure for you.

Buying Commercial Boats
If you are looking to buy commercial boats, you need to do a research first. A research is almost always necessary for any product you buy. Finding the perfect commercial boat is a serious assignment and you need to carefully consider a plethora of things. You can obviously choose the wrong boat and that can cost an arm and a leg in the long run. You have to decide for you how you are to use the boat you buy. It could be used on protected waters or on waters offshore. There are certain factors to consider when we consider buying a boat. The comfort, the speed and the shallow draft is very necessary to take into consideration. There are other options to consider to, some electronic options, twin engines, the gas or diesel engines and other safety measures that should be considered while buying a boat.
You also have to have the boat inspected by a surveyor. That is a very important point in buying commercial boats. The condition of the trailer and the motor has to be considered while you go for a second hand boat. There are dealers who rebuild those motors and these motors are also traded by the users.
When you shop for a boat online it is an easier process. You can also reach the customer service of that website and ask for some important information. There are chat facilities that give a quick answer to your queries. The prices of the boats can be compared and you can also find boats through the various manufacturers. When you buy a boat on a local store you can see the boat but on the internet you can also get a good picture of the boat you are out to buy. Sometimes there are videos available too and you can get a clear picture of everything. You can know is length and also the pricing.
You can also go through the various customer lists which they sometimes provide and learn a lot from the references. You can buy online through a secure payment system that ensures the use of your credit card online is one hundred per cent safe. Go through the latest listings of the boats online and choose one. How To Choose A Travel Boat Cover
Not all boat covers are alike. You may think that a storage cover could pass as a travel cover, but the truth is that covers designed solely for storage may not hold up to the wear and tear of highway travel. The three main features that set trailerable marine covers apart from the pack are material thickness, tie down straps, and a secure fit.
One of the first features to consider when you're looking for a trailerable boat cover is material thickness. The wind whipping at your cover can rip it if the material is too thin. Some manufacturers will tell you that their 150 denier polyester is rugged and durable enough to use as a travel cover. This material thickness may work for storage, but trailerable covers require a thicker polyester.
A 300 denier polyester is a much more durable thickness. It is strong enough to hold up under harsh conditions but breathable enough to prevent moisture damage to your boat. You may be able to save money up front with a 150 denier cover, but 300 denier will serve you better in the long run and will outlast thinner material.
Tie Down Straps
The tie down system varies for each boat cover. Take a close look at the efficiency and protection of your tie down straps. Do they go over the top of the boat, or do they hook into eyelets or loops? Do the straps stretch? Will any metal or buckle parts come in contact with your boat?
Tie downs that wrap over the top of your boat provide secure protection without the risk of a ripped eyelet or hook. If you choose a marine cover with eyelets, make sure they are reinforced, and make sure that no metal parts come in contact with your boat. The eyelet and straps can rub against your boat and scratch it if you're not careful.
The tie downs should have very little give. A stretchy rope or bungee cord won't hold your cover on tight enough to secure the cover. If your straps have metal buckles, make sure that the metal does not scratch your boat's finish. Use at least four full tie downs to secure your boat cover, and secure any loose ends that can flap wildly in the wind or get caught in tires or moving parts.
Secure Fit
As you fly down the highway, you want your cover to stay in place. An elastic hem or adjustable elastic cord will ensure that your cover provides complete protection on the road. Measure your boat to get the closest fit possible.
For most universal boat covers, you should measure your boat from bow to stern but NOT over the windshield. For beam width, measure from side to side at the widest part of the boat. Buy the cover that most closely matches the dimensions of your boat. With the elastic or adjustable hem, you can get a custom fit with a universal cover.

Affordable Boat Covers Offer Cheap Long-term Protection
Affordable boat covers are crucial to boat-owners as they aid to protect a respected investment versus a couple of elements that can damage and devalue an owner's boat.
Boat covers are extraordinarily efficient, theyBre one of the most proficient investments for your boat on the market place to keep things out of the places of your boat that you don't want them. Boats are often times destroyed because water or ice or other parts of nature get inside boats and ruin them from within. In fact, itBs as simple as purchasing a boat cover. Notwithstanding, the cure to this swell problem concerning boat-care and maintenance is surprisingly simple. When driving at that of a speed, itBs easy for the boat's interior to be damaged.
There are likewise a heap of things that could wind up inside the boat that could damage or soil it. Boats are very pricey commodities, a heap of being worth extra than a heap of houses. With increasingly companies merchandising boat covers online, itBs growingly easy and affordable to find a boat cover for your needs. To lose a boat to damage due to a do not have of care would be a tragic thing indeed. And without the ability to insure a boat, thereBs genuinely no way to safely use it.
Boat covers are the premiere and most efficient way to protect your investment. Bird-droppings, bugs, animals; all of these things could get into the boat without it being covered. Many companies have databases that grant you to input your boat's info, and then show you the boat covers that are best suited to protecting your boat. Whether the consequence is rust damage or denting or anything in the damage field, boats can be ruined by just one winter night unprotected during the off-season for sailors. This not only allows you to see the cover in its entirety, but it likewise lets the buyer see what theyBre buying as it looks on the boat before consecrating to buy it.
Likewise, boat covers are extremely affordable for whatever boat-owner. Boat covers are a crucial portion of boat care. Although, said as it might just be to lose or danger damage to one's boat because if you do not have an adequate care, this still happens. When driving on the freeway or the interstate, itBs likewise a good idea to have a cover on a boat.

Sperry Top-sider National Offshore One-design Regattas In 2009
With azure skies, a cool breeze, and placid waters there can not be a better weather outlook besides one conjured by the imagination. These are precisely the types of days which will be coveted when Sperry Top-Sider National Offshore One-Design (NOOD) Regattas take place this year. Almost all of these NOOD Regattas were plagued with some weather issues and delays last year. Hopefully this yearBs prospects will improve and everyone will get to enjoy a remarkable weekend of sailing and racing.
On July 23rd until July 26th the Sperry Top-Sider Marblehead NOOD Regatta will be underway in Marblehead, MA. Annually this Regatta has been known to draw the biggest crowds in comparison with the other NOOD Regatta locations. This year will most likely not be any exception, taking place in the Massachusetts Bay waters, the Marblehead Racing Association is expecting a turn out of over 1,000 sailors. A few of the fleet sailing in Marblehead will include boats from Sonar, Town Class, Viper 640, and J/105 classes.
Hosted by the Larchmont Yacht Club the Sperry Top-Spider Larchmont NOOD Regatta is taking place in September on the 12th and 13th in Larchmont, NY. The Larchmont Yacht Club, one of the most prestigious yacht clubs in the nation, and this NOOD Regatta attract many sailors to its unique waters. These are the same waters that last year caused quite a stir when winds directions shifted suddenly as much as 50 to 60 degrees prompting a few sailors to react fast or risk getting nudged off course. The fleet for this year includes boats from Farr 40, Express 37, Shields, Etchells, and many more classes.
Last year, damage from Hurricane Ike resulted in the cancelation of the 2008 Sperry Top-Sider Houston NOOD Regatta only a few days before it was scheduled to take place the weekend of the 19th. This yearBs Regatta takes place from September 25th to September 27th in Seabrook, TX. Be on deck and at the ready to raise those boat anchors because it can be surmised that the Houston Yacht Club is itching for a wicked revival. Their first desire will undoubtedly be for steady waters and pleasant skies.
Whether it be a venue hosted by a local Yacht Club or sailing for pleasure, it will be foolish to miss out on the NOOD Championship which is taking place in Tortolla in the British Virgin Islands November 7th to November 12th. If last yearBs NOOD Regattas were any indication, load up on boat supplies and start yearning for that perfect day, because this yearBs Sperry Top-Sider NOOD Regatta season will certainly be full of surprises.

Bird Proof Your Boat
ItBs a situation that happens all too often: a boat owner plans to take their vessel out for a day of enjoyment, only to find it covered in bird droppings.
There are a few steps that boat owners may already be taking to help protect their investment. For example, the wax coating used on the exterior of a boat can buy an owner time before bird droppings reach the boats surface, prolonging the possibility of erosion. But how do you keep birds off of a boat in the first place? Birds prefer the high points on a vessel, but will also land on a protective canvas. Treating these areas with visual or physical deterrents will help encourage the birds to move on to a more suitable location. Birds rely heavily on visual clues in their environment helping with flight, the detection of predators, food sources, ect. In fact, birds have the largest eye to body ratio in the animal kingdom.
Using items on a boat which move or sway in the wind, such as the Bird Spider from Bird-B-Gone can be big help. The bird spider looks sort of like an umbrella with no vinyl5 the arms move in the wind, discouraging birds from landing on the boat. Usually one or two units on a boat will be enough to keep the birds at bay, and Bird-B-Gone offers three different boat attachments: a rail mount, a boat base, and a sandbag base.
Another product similar to the Bird Spider is The Solar Repeller. The repeller is a small unit with a 5 foot rod mounted atop that continuously spins. The constant movement will ward off any nearby birds. The repeller is ideal for the bow, canvas covers, or swim platforms. Best of all the solar panel works in conjunction with rechargeable batteries, keeping the unit energized on cloudy days, and at night.
Similar to movement, visual clues such as reflective items will also keep messy birds away from your boat. Reflective deterrents such as Absolute Bird ControlBs (www.absolutebirdcontrol.com) Mylar Flash Tape or Bird Free Boats (www.birdfreeboats.com) Scare Eye Diverters both use reflection to ward off birds. Strung around the boat, the reflective surfaces will have bird avoiding the area because they cannot
Boat owners are no stranger to pest birds, and over the years many have come up with their own deterrent systems to keep their boats clean. Many will use a mono filament fishing line, or cable stung above the masts and spreaders to deter birds from landing. The birds do not like the instability of landing on the wire, moving on to a more inviting perch. However, mono filament will not last long, even in a moderate climate, cable is also used.
Remember to keep birds in mind when winterizing your boat too. An undisturbed boat in a marina can become a favorite perch or winter home for resident bird species. Boat houses also provide the perfect protection for a winter roost or nesting spot. Netting is a great way to block a bird from the boat house rafters. Actively checking up on your boat will help determine whether deterrents are necessary, and save you from the daunting task of cleaning off droppings come spring.
Bird deterrents are designed to discourage birds from choosing your boat as a perch. The products and techniques listed require no maintenance and are very easy to install, the best part of all: the products are humane. We share the waterfront with our feathered friends, but it doesnBt mean we have to be responsible for their mess. Taking small steps to bird proof your boat allows the boat owner to focus on their passion, boating!

How To Choose A Boat Cover For Storage, Trailering, Or Mooring
There are three basic types of covers for boats. Which type you need depends on how you plan to use it. The first type is designed for indoor or outdoor storage out of the water. The second type is designed to protect your boat on a trailer. The last type, a mooring cover, is designed to protect your boat while it is anchored in the water.
If you plan to store your boat indoors in a protected area, you may be able to get away with a lighter weight material, such as 100% cotton or a cotton poly blend. If moisture could be a problem in your storage area, you will need a waterproof or water-resistant coating to prevent moisture damage. Also, if your boat is exposed to sunlight through a window, you will need a storage cover with UV protection.
Outdoor storage requires a heavy duty material, especially if you live in a harsh climate. Choose a cover made from thick, durable material, such as marine polyester. It should be waterproof and provide protection from UV rays. A breathable material allows moisture to evaporate instead of becoming trapped inside your boat, where it can cause water damage. The UV coating resists fading to keep the color of your boat cover as vibrant as the day you bought it.
Don't let standing water or snow pool on top of your storage cover. The extra weight can cause the material to stretch so that it no longer retains its snug fit. Allowing excessive moisture to pool on top of your cover can also give mold and mildew a place to flourish. These intruders eat away at the fibers of your material and compromise the cover's protection. With the right care, a mildew-resistant cover will repel mildew, but if you fail to take care of it as recommended, it may not provide full protection as it was designed to do. In order to prevent sagging, use cross braces as support. PVC pipe or homemade braces will do the job just fine.
Trailerable Covers
More durable than your typical storage material, a trailerable cover is made to last through the wear and tear of trailering, including harsh weather conditions and high winds. Use manufacturer-approved tie down straps, not bungee cords, to get a tight enough fit and to avoid damaging your cover or boat. Cinch the straps tight enough to prevent air pockets from lifting and tugging at your boat cover. Allowing it to whip in the wind as you travel down the highway is a sure method of destroying your cover. Tie it down especially tight at the bow to prevent lofting. Tighten as needed on long trips.
A trailerable cover must be made from highly durable material to withstand the wear and tear of road travel. 100% marine polyester is stronger than a cotton poly blend, making it a popular material for trailerable marine covers. Choose a cover that offers a snug fit, such as an elastic hem or drawstring. It should also be weatherproof and protected with a UV coating.
Mooring Covers
Mooring covers are designed to provide in-water protection for docked boats. These covers must be able to withstand harsh winds and rain and constant sun exposure. Cotton and cotton poly blend materials allow the most breathability to protect from moisture damage during mooring.
Conclusion
For the most versatile and economic choice, look for a marine cover that is approved for more than one purpose, such as storage and trailering. Instead of buying two separate types, you can use the same cover for two different purposes.

Gear Up For A Pontoon Boat Adventure
Just like houseboat vacations, some people even spend days on end on a pontoon boat. A river cruise or a house boat holiday is filled with fun and adventure. Similarly, taking a vacation on a pontoon boat can be an exciting experience. Most lakeside and beach resorts have several boat renting agencies that offer a wide selection of pontoon boats for you to choose from. Pontoon boat rentals can be enjoyed on a half-day or full-day basis. You can even hire them for a couple of days or even more. This will of course involve more expenditure.
Pontoon boats have a large flat deck. The hull is made up of large round tubes fixed to the outer edge of the deck. The deck is encircled with safety railings on all sides. They usually accommodate from 8 to 12 people and are a safe and sturdy variety of boats. You should keep in mind that pontoon boats are better used on smaller and calmer bodies of water. It is not feasible to use them on rough waters. They are meant for chilled out, leisurely vacations with friends and family. These boats come in basic unfurnished varieties and you will find them equipped with a cooler, storage spaces, furniture, toilet and kitchenette as well. Ski poles and wake boards can also be added on to the boat for that extra sporty touch. If you are vacationing with kids then attaching a waterslide to the flank of your pontoon boat is a good idea. This will keep the little ones busy for hours.
Pontoon boat rentals are not a very expensive affair if you consider the fun, enjoyment and relaxation that you will have on your pontoon boat trip. The boat rental agencies usually provide all safety equipment including lifejackets and fire extinguishers. Do make it a point to check the condition of the boat before you venture out on your trip. Reserve fuel is a must-have in case you plan to venture far out.

These boats are flat-bottomed and the pole is positioned in the center of the boat. Skiers find this arrangement convenient and comfortable while skiing. Ski boats have a full-V hull that helps the boat to cut through the waves sharply. They also have a retractable ski pylon, a swim platform with a boarding ladder and a built-in cooler. One person should always keep an eye on the skier and the rope while another drives the boat. Decide upon the areas you will be covering, the speed you will be travelling at and the length of your rides as well. Communicate with verbal and hand signals as often as you can and adjust to each otherBs requirements accordingly. Going on a water skiing binge is a lot of fun and you will surely cherish the memories associated with it for a long time.

Marine grade boat cushions are perfect for your boat. This is true especially if you spend a lot of time on the water. Because they are waterproof you do not have to worry about them becoming soaked with water. They are a compact design that will allow for a perfect fit every time. The marine grade cushions will last far longer than most others. They are also good for your personal watercraft.
There are two different types. The interior and exterior are both marine grade and are mostly used on boats. The interior type are used in the inside of the boat and comes in two grades, Nautilus Grades A and B. These types of boat cushions have a coating called PreFixx which is designed to allow them to be cleaned much easier. They are also more resistant to staining.
They can be wiped off quite easily. As long as you do not use abrasive cleaners on these grades of marine boat cushions they should last for many years. Another benefit of this type of boat cushion is they are flame retardant. These cushions have added flexibility and unlike the old type marine grade boat cushions they are comfortable.

Indoor Or Outdoor Boat Storage - Which Is Best ?
All of the boat owners out there know what it is like to spend a lot of money! Boats cost money, and so does everything else related to boats and boating. If you are grimacing at the thought of all the money you have spent, look at it as an investment. The best way to see anything you have put a lot of money into is to see it as an investment. - when you see these things as investments you will take better care of them. Good investments give good returns, it's that simple.
There are many places that offer indoor boat storage, and there are a few different options to choose from. It is highly recommended that you select a building where you are not allowed to work on your boat during the storage months. This may sound like an option you would like to have, but most accidents and fires happen at these places because of the carelessness of people working on their boats. Also, you should make sure that the storage building is secure and locked tightly at all times. Some places hire a security guard to watch the building for the winter months. Look for a place that ensures security in all areas, including a good alarm system.
Storing your boat outdoors has its advantages, but indoor storage wins every time on the list of pros and cons. When you look at it logically, you will have to pay money every year to have your boat repaired after being outside all winter, so even though your driveway is free, and spots at a marina are cheaper, indoor storage wins every time. Not to mention vandals who have easy access to any boat stores outside. Paying a little extra for storing your boat indoors will always be worth it. The cost of storing your boat at an indoor place generally starts at $24.00 per square foot.
Think about it, after your boat has been sitting in an inside storage building all those cold months, it will only take a few hours to move it to the water, and stock it up with supplies. You could be sailing long before those who stored their boats outside!

Dragon Hole In Spain
There is an island named "Maluekaa' in the east of Spain. There is a famous Cmysterious cavernD on this island. It is found by a German artist by accident. The strange stones in the hole look like the dragon in the Chinese legendary.
The hole is not gloomy at all. It will take 35 to 40 minutes to go over the whole dragon hole. When I just came into the hole, the cold air raided to me at once. Steles on the top of the hole look like a wolfBs teeth. There are lots of strange stones that fear me a lot. This cavern is at least 80 to 100 thousand years old. We went ahead and followed the guide who was explaining the supernatural story about the hole.
After that we arrived at a natural Cconference roomD which is just a 200 square meters big stone table. The guide told us that it was formed by nature and unparalleled on the earth. We were very surprised at it. Besides that, the guide told us that we were under the sea level about 80 meters depth there.
There is a creek named "the river in the sea" in the hole. We took a boat going ahead in the river. The romantic Spanish people install some candles on both sides of every boat. When the candles were lighted, all the boats were seen to be in a line. The scenery is so beautiful that everybody forgot the eeriness that they felt when came into the hole.
With the increasing of the visitors, more and more people found that the scenery of the hole just likes the dragon of the Chinese legendary. So the hole is called as Cdragon hole" now. In Nowadays, the dragon hole has become the most famous sight of Malueka Island which attracts many visitors. To protect the hole, the local government carry out a rule which just allows 500 visitors to come into the hole to visit everyday .So if you want to visit the dragon hole, you should arrived there on the morning.

Yacht enthusiasts worldwide have shared a common love of the cries of the sunrise, the seagulls, the twinkling stars above, and the lapping waves of the ocean during a spectacular sunset. Owning a private yacht is priceless! Especially if you own Amel yachts. The Amel Super Maramu 2000 is the perfect yacht for a cruise loving couple. There is nothing quite as exciting as spotting the playful dance of the dolphins as they go about their day or sighting a sea turtle ambling its way towards shore. People that love the beach and exploring the seashore can also love being on the open ocean boating to adventures and ports unknown.
Anyone seeking to become a crew member on a yacht can often find crew member positions allowing them to work their way to various ports on different yachting cruises. Yacht owners seeking crew members can also find people who want to travel and work their way around the world. Basically the yacht owner will place a post for a certain number of crew members needed to assist with the cruise.
This is a win win situation for both parties. There are various websites available on this type of cruising. Anyone attempting this is encouraged to do their homework. While most people are honest, fun loving yachters, there are some scam artists out there looking to prey on neophytes. Depending on the situation, crew members are expected to bear the cost of their own food and getting to and from the yacht. Each cruise and owner has different expectations.
Yachting around the world can be done by anyone and on any budget. All that is required is a passion for seafaring, a commitment to learning new things, and a willingness to work with other people regardless of their background or experience. Yacht enthusiasts can find a new adventure each time.

Practical Advice On Using Inflatable Boats
The lightweight inflatable boat has become a household item today for many reasons. Due to its size and weight inflatable boats are portable and they do not require a large storage area. When deflated it can be easily stored in a bag and kept in a corner or even in the boot of your car until next use. Due to its low cost and many other advantages the demand for inflatable boats has risen. It is an ideal boat for fishing, leisure rides and water sports activities such as kayaking and white water rafting. These boats are also commonly used today as dive boats, life rafts, for military purposes and as rescue crafts.
Inflatable boats are easy to purchase because of their low price. Maintaining the boat wonBt be an issue since spares are easily available at stores. Also regular servicing is a must since it will definitely lengthen the lifespan of your boat. However there are few important things to know before you put the boat into water.
It is advisable to check the weather conditions always to know about local current and wind conditions. It is a good practice to tell somebody the time you plan to return. If youBre taking any passengers, they should know about the basic operations of the boat. It is also better if you accompany someone else who knows how to man the boat. Check the inflation pressure levels according to the manual. Tighten all the clamps in the motor before you set off and inspect all the valve caps. Engine clamps should be checked even after you start the engine. It is very important that the safety stop switch is working. Never leave without topping the fuel and always start your trip with a full tank and take a spare can of fuel along with you.
When you are having passengers make sure to carry personal floating devices for each person, tools, paddles, oars and a foot pump and carry the boating license always. The passengers should be seated on the wooden seat so that there is proper balance. Once youBre on your way be watchful to man the boat smoothly avoiding any sudden jerks.
After returning from your trip, follow the guidelines in the manual to deflate the air properly. Open all the valves and let the air go out slowly. Do not attempt to fold it while the air is still remaining. Make sure you attend to any small repair immediately before it takes too long in order to avoid major damage. Proper care and regular servicing of your inflatable boat will indeed save lot of money and time.

Boating Safety Tips To Ensure Safety And Relaxation
Boating has become extremely popular in recent years and with the increase in popularity also comes the increase in boating accidents. Accidents that could have been avoided if people would take the time and prepare themselves with some safety tips.
DonBt Drink Alcohol
In the waterways of NJ if you are caught driving a boat under the influence of alcohol you are looking at jail time. In many other parts of the country that is not the case. Regardless of the law you should never drink and drive. It impairs your reaction time, coordination and ability to operate a boat.
Life Jacket
Even though you can swim (see the first part), you should still wear a life jacket. If something should happen you will at least have the added extra protection of being able to float on top of the water so other passing boats can see you.
File a Float Plan
A float plan is a piece of paper that says where you are going, what boat you are in, the time you left, the time you expect to get back and so on. You can make up your own or download an example from the Coast Guard website. Either way, you should leave this float plan with a family member so they have your information.
Weather
Why are you going out on your boat in bad weather? Your boat is for fun not to replicate the CDeadliest CatchD. Make sure the weather conditions are favorable for your outing.
Radio
Make sure you have a working radio on the boat. Sure Columbus didnBt have a radio when he discovered America, but that does not mean you need to sail in a rickety wooden boat either. Make sure you have a working radio on board and do a radio check before you leave the dock.
Coast Guard
Know the channel on your radio for your local Coast Guard. Also know where they are located, their phone numbers and so on and put that on your float plan.
These are just a few of the many boating safety tips you can follow to make you next boating trip a fun, relaxing and enjoyable one.

Corporate Yacht Charter
There are a number of reasons why you may want to rent yachts, but one of these is because you like to use the vessels for corporate events. In this case, you want to go for a corporate yacht charter.
There are a lot. For one, you may want to have a unique way of celebrating milestones in your company such as anniversaries. You may also choose a corporate yacht charter when youBre doing an important product launch. If you like to keep your number of guests very limited and make them the ones who are definitely going to buy your products and services, you can take them on a cruise. You can then have cocktails and presentations during sunsets or nighttime. Another reason for leasing yachts is for teambuilding. You may have got used or even bored with the usual activities, and you like something new? Now, how about if you challenge all your employees to a day or even a week of fun and pressure by playing water sports? Lastly, you can rent a corporate yacht charter as a form of gift to the most valued client or to the most hardworking staff in the office.
What are the things to consider for a corporate yacht charter?
The first thing that you need to keep in mind will be the number of people who are going to occupy the yachts. Most of them, even the bigger ones, have limited number of guests. This is to prevent any potential problem such as overloading. Moreover, the number of people will determine how much youBre going to pay for the corporate yacht charter. Normally, you are going to pay for every person whoBs on board. ItBs also the reason why you have to confirm to your personnel who is definitely joining the trip.
Second, think about your budget. You will definitely spend more if youBre going to choose luxury yachts, or those equipped with professional crew and facilities such as salons, saunas, suites, and gyms, to name a few. You are also going to pay more if you will be traveling to a lot of islands.
Third, make sure that the corporate yacht charter youBve chosen can give you a liability insurance policy. This means that should anything happen to you, the charter company will be responsible to you and your family. The coverage, however, may depend on the type of corporate yacht charter youBve picked.
Fourth, know if there are add-on services that you can take advantage for your corporate yacht charter. There are times when they offer packages, where you donBt only get to use the yachts but you can also use the other facilities such as jet skis, snorkeling and diving equipment, and a lot more.
Today, with ease in navigation, you already have several choices for your corporate yacht charter. If youBre aiming for more nature, you can head to the Caribbean islands. If you want to inject culture, you can select Mediterranean islands.

Helping You Find Fractional Yachts For Sale
A Google search for "fractional yacht" pulls up more than 115,000 leads, offering a whole world of choices. Fractional yachts for sale take into consideration the very real truth that, as much as we would like to, we simply cannot be out on the water 365 days a year.
All fractional yachts for sale do not necessarily have the same arrangements. For instance, SeaNet is a straight fractional, which gives four owners a 53 Sunseeker Manhattan for five weeks each year at $315,000 each (plus $37,000/year in maintenance fees). On the other hand, The Yacht Share offers fractional leases, which gives owners seven weeks for $60,000 down and $2,400/month in maintenance, allowing the owner the ability to renew the lease or walk away at the end of the year.
Then, of course, there is traditional fractional ownership at companies like Breeze Easy, which can transform any new or used boat into a fractional possession.
Of course, not everyone is keen on fractional. Seasoned sailors will always snatch up yachts for sale as a testament to their hard work and achievements in life. "I like possession of the boat, to tell you the truth," admits ex-naval officer Lyman Perry. Caring for sailing yachts has been his lifelong hobby and passion. "I've always been hands on," he adds, "single-handing, priming the engine if it runs dry."
Not only will owners get to know more about yachting, but they can also cut out of work to take a ride if the mood grabs them and have complete freedom over using that boat. To some, ownership is priceless.
Some Americans are even looking for second or larger yachts for sale, in which case fractional leasing is a good way to let prospective owners "test drive" their luxury yachts before buying them outright. At the end of the one-year lease, the buyer may decide to scale up, scale down, try one of the new boats at the marina or simply walk away.
For new owners, leasing is also a good way to gauge how much use the boat will get. Fractional ownership is still a relatively new concept in boating but the portent is good. To find fractional sailing yachts, you can check out Shared Yachts, Yacht Smart, Synergy Yachting Partnerships, Virgin Traders or The Yacht Share.

Have A Memorable Wedding Experience Using Yacht Charters
Choosing a wedding reception or birthday party location is never easy. You want something original, breathtaking, spacious and accommodating. Rather than renting a generic hall, many people are considering yacht charters for a truly memorable experience.
The first question many people have is, "Where are the best locations for yacht charters?" A Caribbean yacht charter sailing vacation is a very popular option for ocean lovers. The Leeward, Windward, St. Marten, St. Bart, Anguilla and Virgin Island chains offer turquoise waters, year-round warmth and laid-back, tropical vibes that are inviting to many sailors.
The Mediterranean Sea is popular during the summer months, whisking guests around the French Riviera, Sardinia and Italy, where the culture is sophisticated and the beauty is historic. In the East, a yacht charter Croatia or yacht charter Greece crew are waiting to show you thousands of islands, artifacts and sights. Sailing yachts can also be chartered in the Bahamas, New England, the South Pacific, the Pacific North West, Australia, South East Asia and the Seychelles & Maldives.
Next, you will want to consider the different sailing yachts available to you. Performance racing yachts, like motor sailors, gullets, classic yachts and the catamaran, offer a fast-paced ride that can cover a lot of open water effortlessly. Motor yachts are known for their performance, sleek styles and are used on larger expeditions.
Sailboats are excellent for day trips where you want to be close to the water and marine life, enjoying the sun and fresh breezes. Fully staffed yacht charters, which are also called crewed yacht charters, may be more expensive, but you will get your own skipper, crew and chef, so everything is taken care of for you. A bareboat charter provides the ultimate freedom, as you learn how to navigate the boat yourself, allowing you the ability to stop anywhere you want.
The main reason why Americans choose yacht charters for their vacations is that they avoid all the hassle and crowds associated with airports. Instead of pushing through security details and going on the same exact trip as hundreds of other passengers, you can customize your own journey however you want it!
You can reach secluded, pristine beaches where you can explore without an entourage of other people. You can choose your own ports for nightlife, shopping and dining. You will have the freedom to anchor in an enchanting place that speaks to you. Few experiences are more harmonious than this!

Pirates Hijack Seychelles Tourist Boat
The hijacking in the Indian Ocean of a luxury yacht regularly used by British holidaymakers has raised fears that pirates are increasingly targeting tourists.
"As far as we know there were no foreign nationals on board."
London-based Aquatours, a specialist diving operator that hires the Indian Ocean Explorer said all its clients had left the boat, though there were still crew onboard at the time of its capture.
An international naval force, including ships from the Royal Navy, has been patrolling the waters close to Somalia since January, after more than 100 vessels were hijacked there last year.
As a result, pirates have ventured further into the Indian Ocean. Pirates demand ransoms for the captured ships.
Only last month, a British tourist was killed by three Burmese pirates who hijacked his boat off the coast of Thailand.
Insurewithease includes automatic cover for hijacking with its standard travel insurance.

How To Choose Your Sailing Yacht
If you are gearing up for a sailing vacation, yet you don't actually own a boat, then you will have some choices to make. Will you be buying new, buying used or chartering. The sailing yacht you choose will affect how choppy or how smooth the ride is, which is particularly important if you have any lily-livered landlubbers aboard your vessel!
The Feeling 55 is a large offshore-cruising monohull sailing yacht offered by Alliaura Marine that caught the eye of Sail Magazine editors. The twin 55-horsepower diesel engine picks up when the sail-drives lack the wind power to fly. There is good maneuverability for such a wide boat, which houses a large cockpit and a garage-sized saloon with 360-degree sea views, not to mention opulent accommodations.
The gorgeous interior houses a wood-finished bar area with sinks and counter space, comfy bench seating and master suites with lots of storage space and a quaint reading lounge. It is no surprise that many luxury yacht charters have added The Feeling 55 to their repertoire. Visit Williamsandsmithells or Alliaura for more information.
The Broadblue 500 catamaran sailing yacht stands at 50 feet in length with a 28-foot beam. Sail Magazine editors say that the size does not go to waste, with a "large bridge deck saloon with room for a U-shaped settee, a separate sitting nook, a forward-facing navigation station with a 360-degree view and a good-sized galley."
The light wood lets in a lot of sunshine, as do the multiple skylights and windows. There are three or four large sleeping cabins. The exterior is particularly sleek with its dark bottom, light top and stream-lined speedy appearance; everyone will be jealous when you pull up in this mid-sized beauty! Prices start at $995,500 although you may find a few brokers offering fractional ownership too. Visit Broadblueusa for more information.
Island Packet Yachts offer impressive-looking exteriors that have evolved over the years, giving consumers what they like with subtle tweaks to each model. The solid construction and ivory gel coat contributes to the stability and durability of this sailing yacht.
There is a large aft deck for sunbathers and plenty of room around the side decks for enjoying the view, rather than cluttering with gear. The galley, state room and navigation center look akin to the bigger, more expensive luxury yacht charters so you are getting a lot packed into this modest vessel.
The Island Packet 485 offers lots of space and a high grade interior. You can look at brochures, photos and read information about their sail boats at Iyp.

Boating Tips: Stay Safe On The Water With These Tips
If you are new to boating or even if you grew up on the water you should always use caution and learn some basic tips for boating safety. The safer you make boating the better time you and the whole family will have.
Always fill out a float plan about your boat trip before leaving the dock and leave a copy with someone who will not be going on the trip with you. You can get a float plan template from the Coast Guard website or make up one of your own. A float plan details the time you are setting sail, where you are going, who is on the boat, the name of the boat and other information the Coast Guard will need in the event they need to find you. It takes less than 10 minutes to fill one out but could mean the world of a difference.
You may not be planning on staying out until it is dark, but you never know what could happen. Check all the lights on your boat to make sure they are working properly. You do not want to get caught out in the dark with no lights. It is unsafe, stupid and you would be breaking the law.
Pack extra maps, flares, a whistle, first aid kit, and an extra hand held radio or CB. In the event of an emergency you want to make sure you have extra supplies that could mean the difference in a making a bad situation better or worse. Maps in case you go down the wrong river, a whistle in case your boatBs horn is not working properly, first aid kit for injuries, and the extra radio in case the one your boat has stops working. Always abide by murphyBs law, and that is anything that can go wrong, will.
Monitor the weather for the day you will be out on the water. If they are calling for a good chance of rain of severe weather conditions do not risk it. Stay off the water that day. If it turns out to be a nice day, then oh well, at least you are safe. Tomorrow will always be another opportunity to enjoy the water.
Boating is meant to be an enjoyable experience and fool of fun for the friends and family. When you do not exercise caution it could turn into a deadly disaster. Whenever in doubt about a situation always be conservative and use common sense. If rough water conditions make you nervous or unsure about yourself or your abilities then it is best to stay off the water that day. Take the necessary steps to not endanger yourself or those that are on your watercraft.

Tips When Searching For The Best Sailboats
Sailboats are fun, plain and simple. Any proud sail boats owner will tell you that powerboats just don't give you the same thrill of being close to the water, feeling the wind in your hair and the ocean spray on your face. To buy a boat is the dream of many Americans, although it is not always practical.
Length is one consideration when looking for a sailboat to buy. Remember that "size does matter" when it comes to boat prices. This is not just for the boat itself but also for the monthly docking charges at the marina.
Of course, if you still want that ultra-long one but don't want to pay the fees, then you can always grab a little rowboat and anchor your boat out in the bay. A small sailboat is better for day trips, sailing in regattas and zipping around.
However, if you plan to sail on longer journeys, then you will want to buy a boat that is sturdier and less likely to capsize. If you are plowing through choppy water, you will be more than glad you opted for the longer deck.
Also, longer sail boats that range from 25 to 35 feet often include enough living space to travel, relax and take a break from the elements. Of course, you will need a helping hand if you buy a bigger one so be sure you have a committed partner before making your purchase.
You'll also want to have a budget in mind while looking at sailboats. Brand new boats are expensive and usually do not come with sails, rigging equipment and other gear you will need to get your boating hobby started. On the other hand, used boats for sale can come with these extras and save you a lot of money.
It makes sense to have an inspector check out your boat before you buy, just as you would have a home inspector look at a prospective house purchase. You should also check out the Blue Book value of your boat before you buy, as you would with a used automobile purchase.
Sail Magazine's "Best Boats of 2009" can help you search the best sailboats. If you are looking for a long luxurious yacht of a sailboat, then the Outbound 52 is your sailing vessel, which also won the award for the "best deck/cockpit." For a light-weight, high-performance catamaran, try the Moxie 37. Another high performing boat is the Santa Cruz 37.
For smaller sail boats that are less than 25 feet, the Bug is a fun ride. To cruise in style, the Hunter 50 has everything from a built-in coffee maker and extra linen storage to a swivel captain's chair and Jacuzzi tub. The Tartan 5300 was chosen for "best system," which has all the electrical controls within reach for quick access. Happy boat hunting!

When Should I Take A Private Yacht Charter?
Where do you want to go on a private yacht charter vacation? There are limitless possibilities, according to crewed yacht brokers. Popular destinations for a United States sailing vacation include San Diego, Chicago, Miami, Honolulu, Hilton Head, Martha's Vineyard, Fort Lauderdale, Galveston, Long Island and Annapolis, yet why stop there? A whole lot more awaits you, which are all discoverable by power boats and luxury yacht charters!
Some of the other Balearic Islands offer a quieter respite, from the secluded beaches of Formentera, to the cobble street village of Cindadella, to the culture-rich fishing village of Mallorca to the National Park on Dragonera. Other Mediterranean destinations include Greece, Croatia, Turkey, France and Italy.
For those chilly winter months, why not take a private yacht charter to the warm Caribbean waters? Travelers come to the Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Jamaica, the Florida Keys and the Bahamas for the white sandy beaches, the pleasant trade winds, turquoise waters, West Indian cuisine and fun activities year-round. There are more than 100 Virgin Islands, offering a plethora of coves for snorkeling, swimming, scuba diving, surfing, marine-life watching and lounging. On the shores, you will enjoy dancing, frozen blender drinks, crafts from local artisans and the dramatic mountain peak topography.
In the Bahamas, you can feast on spicy cuisine, fish on beautiful beaches, snorkel underwater grottos, gaze upon a habitat of 60,000 flamingos, star gaze the midnight skies, dance in nightclubs and splash around at the world-renowned Atlantis water-park and culture center. A sailing charter in the Cayman Islands will whisk you away to the famous Seven Mile Beach (one of the best in the world!), the historic Pedro St. James castle, scuba diving shipwrecks in Cayman Brac, bird watching the rare red-footed Booby on Little Cayman and partaking in the museums and shops of George Town. Nothing beats the winter blues like a Caribbean yacht excursion!
The Indian Ocean has a lot to offer a private yacht charter. Luxury yacht charters in the Maldives are a rare, exotic winter adventure. Clear-water lagoons, coastal coves brimming with ecological diversity and colorful coral gardens bring many that love to snorkel here.
The Seychelles are referred to as "the jewels of the Indian Ocean" and offer more than a hundred islands to explore. The Coco Islands hide black parrots and giant tortoises in misty forests, while simultaneously offering warm tropical lagoons and white sand beaches.
The pleasant trade winds are best during the winter and summer months. History buffs will be amazed at the pirate graves, leper hospital ruins and colonial plantation houses. Creole food and French influences also make the Indian Ocean private yacht charters intriguing.

Tips When Picking Boat Charters
David Hackert, president of Prestige Yacht Charters, says nothing beats boat charters when it comes to celebrating your special day, whether it is a birthday, an anniversary or a wedding. "Think about the weddings you have attended in the past. You celebrated, danced and went home," he explains.
Do you want to be a skipper? This is one of the first decisions to make when considering private a boat charter. If the answer is "yes," then be prepared to hand over your boating resume to the charter company, which includes several years of experience sailing the size and type of boat you intend to charter. At Ebare, you can take an assessment to see if you are ready for smooth sailing and to see what your options are if you are not quite prepared.
You may need to take a few boating and safety courses before being allowed to hold supreme power aboard your private yacht. On the day of your charter, some companies may take you out on a demo cruise, where you will demonstrate your knowledge.
If you flunk the demo, then the company will place a captain aboard your vessel. If, on the other hand, you pass your demo, then congratulations! You will be commanding your first bareboat charter.
If you are not sure about sailing the high seas on your own just yet, then a flotilla is one of the better intermediate boat charters you can take. In a flotilla, a fleet of 8-10 private yacht charters band together on an unforgettable adventure.
A captain, chef, engineer and activities planner will sail on the lead yacht, offering assistance to anyone in the fleet who needs it. You will essentially sail your own ship for the most part. Each morning you will be briefed on optional activities and group meals for the day, as well as where to meet for nighttime docking.
Many travelers say this is the ultimate party, offering some of the best off-the-beaten-path experiences, with none of the anxiety of going it alone. Greece and the British Virgin Islands are popular places to link up with a flotilla.
The cost of boat charters is entirely up to you. Many beginners choose to hop aboard sailing yachts with a handful of other couples to offset the cost. Affordable trips can also be taken in a flotilla fleet, which offers a good middle-ground for relatively inexperienced sailors who still crave the privacy of their own boat.
Smaller boats, sailboats and off-season trips all offer deep discounts. Choosing an all-inclusive sailing vacation is a good way to prevent overspending on port stops, food or other unanticipated expenses. As you travel more and more, you will soon be ready to command your own boat, sail on luxury yacht charters or throw an extravagant party aboard a crewed yacht charter!

First Time Yacht Buyer
If youBre a first-time yacht buyer the choice of used yachts available for purchase can be overwhelming. How do you make sense of all the models and styles out there?
To start, are you a sailor or a motor cruiser? Some like the romance of a sailboat with the image of tropical islands in the picture; some donBt want the hassle of the sails, rigging etc. But a sailboat is very inexpensive to operate if your plans include traveling to far-away places. Still, power boating is not expensive if you choose the right boat. Powerboats generally come well designed with all of the creature comforts you could every need; generally more so than all but the largest of sailboats. And you donBt need to learn all of the sailing techniques either.
Once you have assessed your yachting preference you can then decide on what you intend on doing with it. Are you going to sail, cruise or fish from it? Of course, you could fish from anything if you wish, but yachts made for fishing are much different than those built for cruising.
How often will you use your new yacht?
I always say that there are boaters and boat owners. Boaters use their boats; boat owners just like to say they own a yacht as their boats rarely leave the dock. Some boaters may be full-time liveaboards using their boats as their home every day. Others may just use their boats on nice weekends when time permits.
Next is the cost of yacht ownership. You must take this into consideration. The purchase price is almost like a down payment. Boating has its costs that you need to be aware of. If you are mechanically inclined, you will find that the costs are not substantial. Most boat owners do the majority of work themselves. I have posting at my Cruising Center website about the specifics of boating costs that breaks it down into each expense. Feel free to take a look.
So thus far we have determined what type of boater we are, so we know what style of yacht generally appeals to us, we know how much we expect to use it and about what to expect in the upkeep of her. So far so good!
Now comes the hard part; how to choose just the right one? I have developed a purchase checklist that I use with my customers to let them specify the critical features of a boat. This allows them to choose features that they can live without and those that are features that are must-haves. That checklist then becomes the basis for the perfect boat search. When I am working with customers, I then look for used yachts that best meet the customerBs wants recognizing that boat purchases usually involve some compromise. Rarely do I find a boat with all of the desired features.
In the looking phase, I always say that youBll know it when the right boat comes along; it will CtalkD to you. Any potential boat will have the lines, the feel and the character that appeals to you. DonBt settle for anything less than that pleases you.
But what about the cost of that used yacht? How do you know you are getting a fair deal? Borrowing from another posting at the Cruising Center about the True Value of Boats, good boats always command higher prices, always! A newer boat in poor condition will bring less than an older boat in good condition always! Never buy a yacht based upon the price alone or youBll be selling it within 6 months.
And should you complete a survey, yes itBs always recommended. Choose a knowledgeable surveyor that has experience with your desired boat. Ask him for references too. If you are working with a reputable Yacht Broker, he will recommend several top-shelf surveyors but will insist you choose the one you want.
And lastly, locate a BuyerBs Broker to represent you in your search, selection and purchase. It will save you lots of time, money and a lot of disappointment.
The author, Mike Dickens is a veteran liveaboard boat owner, Yacht Broker and owner/operator of Paradise Yachts.

Reasons To Visit Spanish-speaking Countries
Of all the vacation spots in the world, countries where the native language is Spanish are often the best to visit. Here is why.
1. Spanish-speaking countries tend to be cheap. Visiting Cost Rica sure is cheaper than taking a trip to Hawaii. Most Central American countries are used to American tourists and cater to this crowd, so you get the advantages of a friendly place plus the cheapness of a lesser developed country.
2. Spanish-speaking countries are exciting. In Spain, most people eat dinner around midnight on the weekend and the party doesn't stop until well after the sun comes up. If you are night owl, you will finally find a place that understands your circadian rhythm.
3. Many of these countries are naturally beautiful. Whether it is the beaches of Mexico or the rainforest of Costa Rica, many Spanish-speaking countries are filled with natural beauty and are a pleasure to visit.
4. There are many interesting historical sites to visit. In Spain, you can view the country's magical history that spands centuries. In Central America, you can learn about the ancient Mayans and see some of the amazing Mayan ruins. Chichen Itza,in particular, is a spectacular site to see. Alternatively, you can visit South America and learn more about the Inca culture.
5. It is easy to learn some Spanish. While it is difficult to become fluent in any language, Spanish is one of the easiest languages to learn. At the very least, it is not too difficult to get by. The locals are used to Western tourists with terrible Spanish so they can figure out what you want if you just make a good faith effort.

Kerala- the Land of God brings about peace and tranquility along with itself. Holiday Dreams: A Day Aboard A Luxury Sailing Yacht.
Spending time aboard a luxury yacht is many peopleBs fantasy, but whatBs it really like? It may be only a metre or so to walk down the passerelle, but itBs the gateway to another world. Even in a five-star hotel, anyone can wander in, walk past your table and overhear your conversation. On a cruise ship the crew have lots of other passengers to attend to, not just you. Welcome instead to a world of privacy, privilege and exclusivity; a world of attention to detail, presentation and service where the primary consideration is to ensure that you have the holiday of your dreams. LetBs take a peep at what the diary of a guest might be like.
08.30 Spoke too soon F the kids burst on deck already in their swimming kit and waving water sports jackets that they were pestering to be put into. Much squealing and jumping around before one of the crew swept them off out of earshot in the tender to be bounced around on the inflatable ringo. Having someone else to get rid of some of their energy before breakfast is such a boon!
10.00 Lay in the sun and read my book, casting the occasional glace at the sails and the passing scenery to judge our progress towards another spectacular lunch stop. How nice it was to be so lazy with no feelings of guilt whatsoever F it seems all part of travelling by wind power just to let nature take its course. Chilled drinks materialised by simply thinking about them F must be a paranormal yachting phenomenon (they say strange things happen at sea).
12.30 We circled a small bay as our crew chose exactly the perfect spot to drop anchor. This was the immediate call for a swim and within seconds the children were equipped with snorkelling gear before being dispatched off the bathing platform. After a few minutes I left them to it and climbed back aboard to be presented with a glass of chilled ros™. Lorna could only be persuaded to move from her sunbathing mattress when everyone was seated at the table for lunch F lobster and giant prawns, followed by home-made ice cream and fresh fruit. When and how these fabulous meals are produced is another mystery, as they are always timed and served so exquisitely.
15.30 How quickly an afternoon flies when youBre doing nothing in particular. Our crew nudged us back into action by lifting the anchor and hoisting the mainsail (IBm pretty conversant with the terminology now!). A large sack had appeared on deck and its contents were now revealed as a great colourful kite of a sail (known as a cruising chute) filled with the afternoon breeze. We were now speeding along and yet it felt incredibly calm F no engine noise so we could listen to some great music and enjoy the ride. I even took a turn at the helm before the kids insisted on having a go as well; our Captain was so patient and kept us on course despite best family efforts to the contrary!
17.30 Arrived in port to a small audience gathered on the quayside. It must be pretty nerve-wracking to park one of these things with everyone watching: theyBre just waiting to see if you hit anything and assessing whether thereBs anyone famous on board. Much to their disappointment it was all done and dusted very smoothly and only us on board. Even so, we still attracted a lot of admiring looks F thereBs obviously something deeply fascinating about looking at the back of yachts whilst youBre licking your ice cream! We decided to join them and explore ashore as soon as the passerelle went out.
19.30 Just as well we bought the wardrobe with us as Lorna decided to make the most of the boutiques! How she loved it when our Captain carried her bags aboard for her F IBm sure I wouldnBt have had the same effect. Must go, Champagne and canap™s now being served on deck before we stroll off to one of those nice little restaurants on the quayside.
23.30 Had a super meal with a great view of the harbour. When we eventually returned our hostess was ready with coffees and I have to admit I enjoyed a rather generous brandy (normal shipBs measures you understand). Time for bed F relaxing is such hard work it wears you out!

Smart Led Torches For The Raft
Whether you're spending time on the water in a boat, raft, canoe or inner-tube it is always a good idea to have a handheld light easily accessible. You can never predict what circumstances may cause your plans to keep you out past dark. In most areas, a working light is mandatory on all vessel, large boats as well as canoes and kayaks. While large ships and boats require strong, spotlights as well as handheld flashlights, a compact, portable waterproof flashlight is perfect for a smaller vessel.
Size: A waterproof flashlight should be easy to carry and access at any time. Avoid bulky handheld lights you are apt to leave at home rather than take with you on a small boat. If possible, have two lights, one small one that you can attach to your life jacket or fishing vest and a larger one that is tied into the boat.
Directional: Large sailing vessels utilize stationary mounted boat lights to handle their emergency light needs. If you are in a smaller vessel you are going to want a handheld flashlight that can be easily aimed in a direction quickly. Even large vessels should have several torches easily available in addition to mounted lights.
Easy-To-Use: Find a flashlight or waterproof torch that is simple to operate. If it has multiple light beam settings, make sure the transitions can be made easily in an emergency.
Durable: Make sure that the casing and construction of the torch itself can handle the ruggedness of river rafting, boating and any emergency that may occur in that environment.
A well-constructed waterproof flashlight is exactly the kind of light that can provide the reliability you will need. LED (light-emitting diode) waterproof torches can also provide more energy efficiency, longer battery and bulb life than regular incandescent bulb lights. These LED lights are slightly more expensive to buy than a traditional flashlight, but the longer battery and bulb life will save you significant dollars in the long-run.
Extra Flashlight Features
Waterproof flashlights can serve many different purposes, especially if you purchase a light that has multiple colors, brightness variation, and flashing features. Different colored lights can serve several purposes. A red light can be used to signal boats in case of an emergency. A blue light can help you preserve your night vision if alone on the water and a green light can help attract fish during night fishing. A waterproof torch with a flashing light feature can be used as a signal beacon. Other handheld lights have a dimmer or focus switch that allows you to create a wider beam of light to scan an entire lake or a narrow beam to focus out on a distant place downstream. These are all useful features to have at your fingertips while on the water.
Whether you're boating, rafting, canoeing, or kayaking, you should always carry an emergency light with you that can hold up to the conditions a watery adventure can bring about.

Dinghy Covers F Why We Use Them
If you are planning on spending your vacation on water, you might want to take your own dinghy with you. Using your own dinghy is economical if you planning on spending a lot of time on the water and can save you money on hiring one in the long term.
Major components of a dinghy are ;
Oars - As standard the dinghy is fixed with two oars on either side which are also known as rowlocks.
Motor F A powerful motor enables the dinghy to go at very high speed, for example an engine with a 15 horsepower outboard can reach speeds of up to 25 mph.
Sail F Raised up by pulling a rope, the sail can come in different shapes and sizes.
Apart from the above, dinghies should also contain life jackets, flares and a hand bailer. Various useful dinghy accessories and products are available on the market today and they can easily be ordered online.
When it comes to storing or towing them, dinghy covers come in handy. A dinghy cover is an essential item since it gives protection to the dinghy. When purchasing a dinghy cover, one should carefully select a durable and strong cover that will provide the maximum security for the boat.
A dinghy cover should be strong enough to protect the boat from the sun, rain or any other weather condition and most importantly they should come with releasing buckles, webbing nylon, fastening straps and hull straps. There are flat covers, boom up covers, trailing ones and mast up covers, all of which serve different purposes.
Manufactured in strong Poly cotton or heavy duty polyester material, dinghy covers can be made in different sizes and prices. Fit enough to be used by all ages these covers are made by using breathable waterproof material and acrylic materials and usually include an ultra violet coating. High quality ones are Anti fungicidal and lasts under any weather condition.
Usually manufactured in standard sizes these covers can be purchased online. If required one can give measurements and place an order to fit exact specifications. Dinghy covers are an ideal choice if your yacht is always on the move.

A Boat Trip To Tiran Island And The Coral Reefs
Sharm El Sheikh offers many exciting trips and tours, and one of the best and also a great day out for you and the family, is a boat trip to Tiran island.
A better deal will probably be had in one of the busy resorts like naama Bay were there are a lot of Tour Operators competing against each other for these trips.
Once you have found a good deal in for your trip to Tiran Island, you will need to know what to take with you, first and most important is a snorkel kit comprising of snorkel mask and flippers. Flippers are recommended because they are a lot easier to swim with, as the currents around the reefs can be quite strong. You will need a towel, and a bag for your belongings, and if possible a good underwater camera as the colours of the reefs and fish are stunning and well taking a picture of.
Although this trip is mainly about snorkelling, you donBt have to snorkel, you can simply just relax on the boat and take in the stunning scenery of Tiran island and the aqua seas of the gulf of aqaba.
The trip starts with your pickup from your hotel or apartment at around 8:00 in the morning, you are taken to naama bay, here you can hire snorkel equipment from a dive hire centre, from there itBs to Naama bay boat jetty, this is were all the day trips start from. The boats usually take around 30 people so it does not get to crowded.
Once you are aboard the Boat itBs time to set sail for Tiran Island, although the boats are diesel it takes around an hour to reach Tiran island and if you are lucky you may see Dolphins on the way. Refreshments are included on your trip so you will not need your own water.
An introduction from one of the guides will be given, if you have never been on one of these trips this is were the guide gives some tips on doBs and donBts for snorkelling the reefs, he will also show what fish you might glimpse see, and especially the ones to be aware of as some can be very dangerous.
As you near Tiran Island your first stop for snorkelling will be Gordon reef. Gordon reef is the most southerly of the reefs of Tiran island, and is home to an old rusty Merchant ship which foundered in 1981. The wreck called the Lovilla acts as a marker for GordonBs reef.
Snorkelling at GordonBs Reef can be tough if the currents are strong, but donBt worry if the currents are too strong, your guide will probably find a calmer spot around the reef. Your guide will be with you all the time when snorkelling for your safety, and if your not a strong swimmer you can take a life guard with you.
Never swim away from the guide and your boat, if you have seen the movie Open Water you will know what I mean
Once you drop into the water of Gordon reef you take a short swim to the reef, as you approach the reef you will see a Blaze of colour of the coral and the fish, and if you are lucky you may see Giant manta rays as this is there swimming ground, you may even glimpse the massive Humphead Wrasse, these big fish are very tranquil and may come close to you, but try not to touch them as they have a protected coated skin and may rub off leaving the wrasse with no protection from Bacteria.
After a while exploring the reef its time for lunch back on board the boat, the lunch is prepared by the boat chef and is usually a fish dish served with rice. When you have had lunch and rested for awhile its on to Tiran islandBs next reef called Jackson reef, this is the most northerly of the reefs. Jackson reef also has its own landmark in the form of a lighthouse situated on the east side, There is also a small shipwreck but this is badly eroded.
Jackson reefs coral walls plummet to depths of around 50 meter and once down there the sight is truly astonishing. The reef is also subject to strong winds and currents, your guide will determine whether its safe for snorkelling. After awhile snorkelling at Jackson reef its back to the boat and head on to Tiran island itself. The boat can only get so close to the island, if you want to go on to the island they will take you there by small motor boat otherwise you can snorkel the shallow waters off Tiran island.
Once you have had a short stay at Tiran island its back to the boat to head back to Naama bay, As you come back to Gordon Reef, the boat will get close up to the ghostly wreck lovilla here you will be able to take photos of this majestic buckled wreck.
If your are doing well for time then you may stop off at Far garden which is in the northern tip of the great bay surrounding Naama bay beach. This is a very good snorkelling spot the colourful coral gardens are outstanding, this is probably why it is named as a garden. At Far garden you will have a bit of free time to snorkel on your own and to explore the colourful reef.
From far garden its just a short journey back to Naama Bay Jetty, which is where your transport will be waiting for you to take you back to your hotel or apartment.
