ItBs a situation that happens all too often: a boat owner plans to take their vessel out for a day of enjoyment, only to find it covered in bird droppings.
There are a few steps that boat owners may already be taking to help protect their investment. For example, the wax coating used on the exterior of a boat can buy an owner time before bird droppings reach the boats surface, prolonging the possibility of erosion. But how do you keep birds off of a boat in the first place? Birds prefer the high points on a vessel, but will also land on a protective canvas. Treating these areas with visual or physical deterrents will help encourage the birds to move on to a more suitable location. Birds rely heavily on visual clues in their environment helping with flight, the detection of predators, food sources, ect. In fact, birds have the largest eye to body ratio in the animal kingdom.
Using items on a boat which move or sway in the wind, such as the Bird Spider from Bird-B-Gone can be big help. The bird spider looks sort of like an umbrella with no vinyl5 the arms move in the wind, discouraging birds from landing on the boat. Usually one or two units on a boat will be enough to keep the birds at bay, and Bird-B-Gone offers three different boat attachments: a rail mount, a boat base, and a sandbag base.
Another product similar to the Bird Spider is The Solar Repeller. The repeller is a small unit with a 5 foot rod mounted atop that continuously spins. The constant movement will ward off any nearby birds. The repeller is ideal for the bow, canvas covers, or swim platforms. Best of all the solar panel works in conjunction with rechargeable batteries, keeping the unit energized on cloudy days, and at night.
Similar to movement, visual clues such as reflective items will also keep messy birds away from your boat. Reflective deterrents such as Absolute Bird ControlBs (www.absolutebirdcontrol.com) Mylar Flash Tape or Bird Free Boats (www.birdfreeboats.com) Scare Eye Diverters both use reflection to ward off birds. Strung around the boat, the reflective surfaces will have bird avoiding the area because they cannot
Boat owners are no stranger to pest birds, and over the years many have come up with their own deterrent systems to keep their boats clean. Many will use a mono filament fishing line, or cable stung above the masts and spreaders to deter birds from landing. The birds do not like the instability of landing on the wire, moving on to a more inviting perch. However, mono filament will not last long, even in a moderate climate, cable is also used.
Remember to keep birds in mind when winterizing your boat too. An undisturbed boat in a marina can become a favorite perch or winter home for resident bird species. Boat houses also provide the perfect protection for a winter roost or nesting spot. Netting is a great way to block a bird from the boat house rafters. Actively checking up on your boat will help determine whether deterrents are necessary, and save you from the daunting task of cleaning off droppings come spring.
Bird deterrents are designed to discourage birds from choosing your boat as a perch. The products and techniques listed require no maintenance and are very easy to install, the best part of all: the products are humane. We share the waterfront with our feathered friends, but it doesnBt mean we have to be responsible for their mess. Taking small steps to bird proof your boat allows the boat owner to focus on their passion, boating!

How To Choose A Boat Cover For Storage, Trailering, Or Mooring
There are three basic types of covers for boats. Which type you need depends on how you plan to use it. The first type is designed for indoor or outdoor storage out of the water. The second type is designed to protect your boat on a trailer. The last type, a mooring cover, is designed to protect your boat while it is anchored in the water.
If you plan to store your boat indoors in a protected area, you may be able to get away with a lighter weight material, such as 100% cotton or a cotton poly blend. If moisture could be a problem in your storage area, you will need a waterproof or water-resistant coating to prevent moisture damage. Also, if your boat is exposed to sunlight through a window, you will need a storage cover with UV protection.
Outdoor storage requires a heavy duty material, especially if you live in a harsh climate. Choose a cover made from thick, durable material, such as marine polyester. It should be waterproof and provide protection from UV rays. A breathable material allows moisture to evaporate instead of becoming trapped inside your boat, where it can cause water damage. The UV coating resists fading to keep the color of your boat cover as vibrant as the day you bought it.
Don't let standing water or snow pool on top of your storage cover. The extra weight can cause the material to stretch so that it no longer retains its snug fit. Allowing excessive moisture to pool on top of your cover can also give mold and mildew a place to flourish. These intruders eat away at the fibers of your material and compromise the cover's protection. With the right care, a mildew-resistant cover will repel mildew, but if you fail to take care of it as recommended, it may not provide full protection as it was designed to do. In order to prevent sagging, use cross braces as support. PVC pipe or homemade braces will do the job just fine.
Trailerable Covers
More durable than your typical storage material, a trailerable cover is made to last through the wear and tear of trailering, including harsh weather conditions and high winds. Use manufacturer-approved tie down straps, not bungee cords, to get a tight enough fit and to avoid damaging your cover or boat. Cinch the straps tight enough to prevent air pockets from lifting and tugging at your boat cover. Allowing it to whip in the wind as you travel down the highway is a sure method of destroying your cover. Tie it down especially tight at the bow to prevent lofting. Tighten as needed on long trips.
A trailerable cover must be made from highly durable material to withstand the wear and tear of road travel. 100% marine polyester is stronger than a cotton poly blend, making it a popular material for trailerable marine covers. Choose a cover that offers a snug fit, such as an elastic hem or drawstring. It should also be weatherproof and protected with a UV coating.
Mooring Covers
Mooring covers are designed to provide in-water protection for docked boats. These covers must be able to withstand harsh winds and rain and constant sun exposure. Cotton and cotton poly blend materials allow the most breathability to protect from moisture damage during mooring.
Conclusion
For the most versatile and economic choice, look for a marine cover that is approved for more than one purpose, such as storage and trailering. Instead of buying two separate types, you can use the same cover for two different purposes.

Gear Up For A Pontoon Boat Adventure
Just like houseboat vacations, some people even spend days on end on a pontoon boat. A river cruise or a house boat holiday is filled with fun and adventure. Similarly, taking a vacation on a pontoon boat can be an exciting experience. Most lakeside and beach resorts have several boat renting agencies that offer a wide selection of pontoon boats for you to choose from. Pontoon boat rentals can be enjoyed on a half-day or full-day basis. You can even hire them for a couple of days or even more. This will of course involve more expenditure.
Pontoon boats have a large flat deck. The hull is made up of large round tubes fixed to the outer edge of the deck. The deck is encircled with safety railings on all sides. They usually accommodate from 8 to 12 people and are a safe and sturdy variety of boats. You should keep in mind that pontoon boats are better used on smaller and calmer bodies of water. It is not feasible to use them on rough waters. They are meant for chilled out, leisurely vacations with friends and family. These boats come in basic unfurnished varieties and you will find them equipped with a cooler, storage spaces, furniture, toilet and kitchenette as well. Ski poles and wake boards can also be added on to the boat for that extra sporty touch. If you are vacationing with kids then attaching a waterslide to the flank of your pontoon boat is a good idea. This will keep the little ones busy for hours.
Pontoon boat rentals are not a very expensive affair if you consider the fun, enjoyment and relaxation that you will have on your pontoon boat trip. The boat rental agencies usually provide all safety equipment including lifejackets and fire extinguishers. Do make it a point to check the condition of the boat before you venture out on your trip. Reserve fuel is a must-have in case you plan to venture far out.

Indoor Or Outdoor Boat Storage - Which Is Best ?
All of the boat owners out there know what it is like to spend a lot of money! Boats cost money, and so does everything else related to boats and boating. If you are grimacing at the thought of all the money you have spent, look at it as an investment. The best way to see anything you have put a lot of money into is to see it as an investment. - when you see these things as investments you will take better care of them. Good investments give good returns, it's that simple.
There are many places that offer indoor boat storage, and there are a few different options to choose from. It is highly recommended that you select a building where you are not allowed to work on your boat during the storage months. This may sound like an option you would like to have, but most accidents and fires happen at these places because of the carelessness of people working on their boats. Also, you should make sure that the storage building is secure and locked tightly at all times. Some places hire a security guard to watch the building for the winter months. Look for a place that ensures security in all areas, including a good alarm system.
Storing your boat outdoors has its advantages, but indoor storage wins every time on the list of pros and cons. When you look at it logically, you will have to pay money every year to have your boat repaired after being outside all winter, so even though your driveway is free, and spots at a marina are cheaper, indoor storage wins every time. Not to mention vandals who have easy access to any boat stores outside. Paying a little extra for storing your boat indoors will always be worth it. The cost of storing your boat at an indoor place generally starts at $24.00 per square foot.
Think about it, after your boat has been sitting in an inside storage building all those cold months, it will only take a few hours to move it to the water, and stock it up with supplies. You could be sailing long before those who stored their boats outside!

Dragon Hole In Spain
There is an island named "Maluekaa' in the east of Spain. There is a famous Cmysterious cavernD on this island. It is found by a German artist by accident. The strange stones in the hole look like the dragon in the Chinese legendary.
The hole is not gloomy at all. It will take 35 to 40 minutes to go over the whole dragon hole. When I just came into the hole, the cold air raided to me at once. Steles on the top of the hole look like a wolfBs teeth. There are lots of strange stones that fear me a lot. This cavern is at least 80 to 100 thousand years old. We went ahead and followed the guide who was explaining the supernatural story about the hole.
After that we arrived at a natural Cconference roomD which is just a 200 square meters big stone table. The guide told us that it was formed by nature and unparalleled on the earth. We were very surprised at it. Besides that, the guide told us that we were under the sea level about 80 meters depth there.
There is a creek named "the river in the sea" in the hole. We took a boat going ahead in the river. The romantic Spanish people install some candles on both sides of every boat. When the candles were lighted, all the boats were seen to be in a line. The scenery is so beautiful that everybody forgot the eeriness that they felt when came into the hole.
With the increasing of the visitors, more and more people found that the scenery of the hole just likes the dragon of the Chinese legendary. So the hole is called as Cdragon hole" now. In Nowadays, the dragon hole has become the most famous sight of Malueka Island which attracts many visitors. To protect the hole, the local government carry out a rule which just allows 500 visitors to come into the hole to visit everyday .So if you want to visit the dragon hole, you should arrived there on the morning.

Into The Sunset
Yacht enthusiasts worldwide have shared a common love of the cries of the sunrise, the seagulls, the twinkling stars above, and the lapping waves of the ocean during a spectacular sunset. Owning a private yacht is priceless! Especially if you own Amel yachts. The Amel Super Maramu 2000 is the perfect yacht for a cruise loving couple. There is nothing quite as exciting as spotting the playful dance of the dolphins as they go about their day or sighting a sea turtle ambling its way towards shore. People that love the beach and exploring the seashore can also love being on the open ocean boating to adventures and ports unknown.
Anyone seeking to become a crew member on a yacht can often find crew member positions allowing them to work their way to various ports on different yachting cruises. Yacht owners seeking crew members can also find people who want to travel and work their way around the world. Basically the yacht owner will place a post for a certain number of crew members needed to assist with the cruise.
This is a win win situation for both parties. There are various websites available on this type of cruising. Anyone attempting this is encouraged to do their homework. While most people are honest, fun loving yachters, there are some scam artists out there looking to prey on neophytes. Depending on the situation, crew members are expected to bear the cost of their own food and getting to and from the yacht. Each cruise and owner has different expectations.
Yachting around the world can be done by anyone and on any budget. All that is required is a passion for seafaring, a commitment to learning new things, and a willingness to work with other people regardless of their background or experience. Yacht enthusiasts can find a new adventure each time.

Practical Advice On Using Inflatable Boats
The lightweight inflatable boat has become a household item today for many reasons. Due to its size and weight inflatable boats are portable and they do not require a large storage area. Also regular servicing is a must since it will definitely lengthen the lifespan of your boat. However there are few important things to know before you put the boat into water.
It is advisable to check the weather conditions always to know about local current and wind conditions. It is a good practice to tell somebody the time you plan to return. If youBre taking any passengers, they should know about the basic operations of the boat. It is also better if you accompany someone else who knows how to man the boat. Engine clamps should be checked even after you start the engine. It is very important that the safety stop switch is working. Never leave without topping the fuel and always start your trip with a full tank and take a spare can of fuel along with you.
When you are having passengers make sure to carry personal floating devices for each person, tools, paddles, oars and a foot pump and carry the boating license always. The passengers should be seated on the wooden seat so that there is proper balance. Once youBre on your way be watchful to man the boat smoothly avoiding any sudden jerks.
After returning from your trip, follow the guidelines in the manual to deflate the air properly. Open all the valves and let the air go out slowly. Do not attempt to fold it while the air is still remaining. Make sure you attend to any small repair immediately before it takes too long in order to avoid major damage.
Proper care and regular servicing of your inflatable boat will indeed save lot of money and time.

Boating Safety Tips To Ensure Safety And Relaxation
Boating has become extremely popular in recent years and with the increase in popularity also comes the increase in boating accidents. Accidents that could have been avoided if people would take the time and prepare themselves with some safety tips.
DonBt Drink Alcohol
In the waterways of NJ if you are caught driving a boat under the influence of alcohol you are looking at jail time. In many other parts of the country that is not the case. Regardless of the law you should never drink and drive. It impairs your reaction time, coordination and ability to operate a boat.
Life Jacket
Even though you can swim (see the first part), you should still wear a life jacket. If something should happen you will at least have the added extra protection of being able to float on top of the water so other passing boats can see you.
File a Float Plan
A float plan is a piece of paper that says where you are going, what boat you are in, the time you left, the time you expect to get back and so on. You can make up your own or download an example from the Coast Guard website. Either way, you should leave this float plan with a family member so they have your information.
Weather
Why are you going out on your boat in bad weather? Your boat is for fun not to replicate the CDeadliest CatchD. Make sure the weather conditions are favorable for your outing.
Radio
Make sure you have a working radio on the boat. Sure Columbus didnBt have a radio when he discovered America, but that does not mean you need to sail in a rickety wooden boat either. Make sure you have a working radio on board and do a radio check before you leave the dock.
Coast Guard
Know the channel on your radio for your local Coast Guard. Also know where they are located, their phone numbers and so on and put that on your float plan.
These are just a few of the many boating safety tips you can follow to make you next boating trip a fun, relaxing and enjoyable one.
